Be Still and Know: Week of March 29th, 2020

Just a little over a week ago (can you believe it?!), we had our last in person worship service for the time being at Family of Christ. During the service, we read the story of Jesus calming the storm, and Pastor Brent reminded us that we can always look to Christ in times of fear, chaos, and uncertainty. Christ conquered both disease and dis-ease, and so God's messengers in the Bible remind us over and over "Do not be afraid." But...that is so much easier said than done, right? That is why, in these daily devotions and in all of our ministries at Family of Christ during the Covid-19 pandemic, we invite you to hold onto the words of Psalm 46: 1-3, 10a:

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult...'Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.'"

What do these words mean to you, beloved child of God, in your present reality? Please type your responses in the comments below.

Continuing to ask for God’s strength during this time. Knowing he is always with me helps calm me during this time of uneasiness.

With the ever changing seemingly day by day, hour by hour, minute by minute information regarding this pandemic, it’s extremely hard to be still/quiet about anything. Stepping back and reflecting how we can help ourselves and others through prayer and trusting in Gods grace is something I hold onto.

I love the phrase, “Be still.” Even before our present situation, I know I struggle to be still, quiet enough to hear His voice. Thanks for the focus, Pastor Megan.

This is a time for me to put all my trust in God. I must focus on what I have - not what I do not have! Reaching out to friends and hearing from friends is God at work. "Be still and know that I am God!" The keyword for me here is TRUST! Bob Steen
